THE STORY
Years of international experience in architecture, engineering, and project management
Studio Umbria was born from the shared vision of
architect Alessio Boco, founder of AB Studio and
architect Riccardo Vicarelli, founder of RVA Services.
Bringing together years of international experience in architecture, engineering, and project management,
they combined their expertise to create a multidisciplinary studio
dedicated to high end retail and commercial design worldwide.
United by a passion for innovation, technical excellence,
and meaningful spaces, Studio Umbria delivers integrated architectural solutions that merge creativity with precision.
From flagship stores and boutiques to experiential retail environments,
the studio was founded with the ambition to design spaces that strengthen brand identity, elevate customer experience,
and shape the future of retail architecture on a global scale.

Riccardo Vicarelli
Founder | senior architect
Riccardo Vicarelli brings more than 20 years of experience in architecture, interior design and project delivery across Italy, London and the UAE. As founder of Riccardo Vicarelli Architects, he has developed a hands-on approach that brings together architectural design, technical coordination, procurement and construction.
His retail experience includes working on projects for international brands including Prada, Miu Miu, Polène and other leading fashion and lifestyle brands, with experience spanning new boutiques, refurbishments, fit-outs and complex projects in London and Italy.
At Studio Umbria, Riccardo focuses on helping international retail brands translate their design standards into successful local delivery. His experience across different markets allows him to coordinate between brands, architects, consultants, contractors and local authorities, ensuring that design intent, quality and programme remain consistent from the early stages through to completion.
This is particularly important for brands delivering projects across multiple markets, where local knowledge and international standards need to work together seamlessly.
Alessio Boco
Founder | Architecture & Project Management
Alessio Boco brings 25 years of international experience in architecture, design management and project delivery. Based in Stockholm, he works across Europe, with a particular focus on Scandinavia, combining local architectural expertise with a strong understanding of international retail requirements.
His retail portfolio includes projects for leading brands such as Dior, Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu and Polène, covering new store openings, refurbishments, local architectural coordination and site supervision. His wider experience includes senior architectural roles at Sweco Architects, where he developed expertise in complex project coordination, BIM and sustainable design.
At Studio Umbria, Alessio draws on his Scandinavian market knowledge and international project experience to support retail brands with local architecture, technical coordination and project management, ensuring that global design standards are translated into successful delivery within each market.
Ian Lau
Founder | Architecture & Project Management
Ian brings over 25 years of high-end architectural and interior design project leadership to Studio Umbria. He specialises in luxury retail design, fit-out, construction and project management, having held senior leadership roles within the Prada Group and Gucci Group across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
His extensive project portfolio includes complex flagship stores, major renovations, temporary spaces, rapid-build pop-ups, exhibitions, artisanal food & beverage concepts and high-profile historical restorations for premier brands including Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, Car Shoe, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent.
At Studio Umbria, Ian draws on his deep expertise in global vendor management, project delivery and cross-cultural execution to ensure that international brand standards are translated seamlessly into local markets, with the same attention to detail, quality and commercial discipline expected by the world’s leading luxury brands.
